glossa is a browser extension for bilingual subtitles on supported streaming sites. This page explains what data glossa processes, why it is processed, and what is shared with glossa services.

Where data is handled

Authentication and account data are stored on secure cloud infrastructure. For supporter accounts, your known-word vocabulary list is also stored in the cloud to enable sync across browsers and devices.

Interlinear glosses are computed on glossa's server. When a supporter account has glosses turned on, the extension sends the subtitle lines of the title being watched (with a few neighbouring lines for context) to that server, together with your sign-in token so it can check your access. To choose the meaning of a word that fits the sentence, the server sends the line and its neighbours to Cloudflare Workers AI. Glossed lines are cached so they are not computed twice, without any link to your account. For your account, glossa keeps only a hashed account identifier with a monthly usage count, to apply usage limits. glossa does not keep a record of which titles you watch.

Free accounts send no subtitles anywhere. All other processing, like subtitle rendering and word highlighting, happens locally in your browser.

When you create an account or reset your password, glossa sends transactional emails (such as verification codes) to your email address via a third-party email delivery service. Your email address is transmitted to that service solely for the purpose of delivering these messages and is not used for marketing.

Retention and security

glossa keeps only the minimum data needed to provide the product. Your data is accessible only to you and is never sold or used for advertising of any kind.
